Legal Aid’s Economic Development Unit represents nonprofit community organizations in neighborhood improvement activities, including creating and preserving affordable housing in Kansas City.   Legal services include property acquisition, financing, title clearance, real estate closing and syndication, tax abatement, zoning, applications for tax exemption, nonprofit formation, and contracts with service providers. LSC Launches Rapid Response Campaign to Defunding Threat
President Trump’s FY 2026 budget proposal, released May 30, calls for the elimination of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), jeopardizing vital legal protections for veterans, seniors and children nationwide. If enacted, this would end LSC-funded assistance for everyday Americans facing urgent civil legal issues such as domestic violence, fraud, veteran benefits and medical debt.
Key Groups Send Support Letters to Congress for LSC
Amid threats to LSC's funding, key groups are stepping up to urge Congress's support. 
Support Justice for All — Protect Legal Services for Low-Income Americans
Every day, millions of Americans face life-altering legal challenges — eviction, domestic violence, loss of veterans’ benefits and consumer scams — without the resources to protect their rights in court. Legal aid organizations funded by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) are often their last line of defense. But that safety net is at risk. Defunding LSC as the White House budget proposes would strip away access to legal representation for those who need it most. When justice depends on income, it isn’t justice at all.
Power of Attorney In Missouri
In Missouri, a Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone (an agent) to act on your behalf in financial and/or healthcare matters. Missouri recognizes both general and durable powers of attorney, with the latter remaining in effect even if the principal becomes incapacitated. A healthcare power of attorney allows you to designate someone to make medical decisions for you if you are unable to do so.  Key Aspects of Power of Attorney in Missouri:
