LSC Launches Rapid Response Campaign to Defunding Threat

LSC

President Trump’s FY 2026 budget proposal, released May 30, calls for the elimination of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), jeopardizing vital legal protections for veterans, seniors and children nationwide. If enacted, this would end LSC-funded assistance for everyday Americans facing urgent civil legal issues such as domestic violence, fraud, veteran benefits and medical debt.

The proposal allocates just for $21 million LSC close-out costs. By contrast, LSC received $560 million in FY 2025 under a Continuing Resolution signed by President Trump—flat funding from FY 2024.

LSC has launched a rapid response campaign to make sure legal aid remains accessible to the people and communities who depend on it most. Want to join us? See ways to get involved and learn why legal aid matters to your community.
