Advance Directive: It's Your Right to Decide
In Missouri, an advance directive is a legal document that allows individuals to make their healthcare wishes known in advance, should they become unable to make decisions for themselves. It essentially outlines preferences for medical treatment and names a healthcare agent to make decisions on the individual's behalf when they are incapacitated.  Here's a more detailed explanation: What is an Advance Directive?
Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of the Elderly and Disabled
NEW: Online Reporting is now available for all concerned individuals and should only be used to report non-emergencies. If you are a mandated reporter, DHSS encourages you to make your adult abuse and neglect reports online 24/7 to help keep our hotline open to the public. Thank you for your partnership! Kinship Care Navigators and Legal Information Clinics
The Missouri Kinship Navigator Program provides information, resources, and support groups to kinship caregivers. Parent Link at the University of Missouri administers the program. Access to legal assistance was one of the top needs reported by caregivers. Mid Missouri Legal Services (MMLS) has been working with a group convened by Parent Link to organize legal information clinics in Central Missouri and plans are in the works for a clinic in Poplar Bluff.  See below for more information and current clinic locations and dates.

At The 2024 Big Event held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Latricia Scott Adams was honored with the esteemed Alvin Sykes Justice Award. Latricia is the director of Legal Aid's Volunteer Attorney Project. Each year, the UMKC Foundation and Law Alumni Association recognize exceptional alumni and friends of the School of Law with joint awards acknowledging philanthropy, leadership, service to the School of Law and the legal community, and lifetime achievement.

OACAC Summer Energy Assistance Program opens June 1 for counties across the Ozarks
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation, or OACAC, is opening its summer energy assistance program to help people with their energy bills this summer. The program starts June 1. If you’re at risk of getting your energy shut off, OACAC may be able to help. You just have to apply. You can do that online, in person at their Springfield office, or over the phone. If you’re receiving winter assistance, you’re eligible for the program and do not need to reapply.
