Key Groups Send Support Letters to Congress for LSC

Amid threats to LSC's funding, key groups are stepping up to urge Congress's support.
Last month, 40 bipartisan state attorneys general wrote a letter urging Congress to support LSC. "Simply stated, the LSC is at the frontline for protecting and expanding access to justice throughout America, and it has demonstrated prudent stewardship of taxpayer dollars in providing critical civil legal help to millions of our fellow Americans and their families—help they may not otherwise receive," they wrote.
Funding LSC is a "a sound investment in the foundational American principle of equal justice under the law."
Chief justices from 37 states penned a letter asking Congress to safeguard funding for LSC. "The promise of justice must be real to all who seek it," the letter reads. "Justice for only those who can afford it is neither justice for all nor justice at all. In view of these facts on the ground, we urge you take all necessary steps to protect funding for LSC in FY 2026."
Leaders from more than 160 U.S. law firms, representing offices across all 50 states, sent a similar letter of support to Congress. It reads: "Our local communities depend on the legal aid organizations funded by LSC, and our firms, in turn, rely on these legal aid agencies to increase the impact of our volunteer legal services."
