A contract for deed is an agreement whereby a buyer of a home makes regular payments to a seller for an agreed period or up to an agreed amount (see sidebar on p. 3 of the attachment below for more information). The seller holds legal title to the property until the final payment is made.
What is a Joint Tenancy?
Joint tenancy is a form of ownership by two or more individuals together. It differs from other types of co-ownership in that the surviving joint tenant immediately becomes the owner of the whole property upon the death of the other joint tenant. This is called a “right of survivorship.”
What is Bankruptcy?
Bankruptcy is a legal proceeding in which a person who cannot pay his or her bills can get a fresh financial start. The right to file for bankruptcy is provided by federal law, and all bankruptcy cases are handled in federal court.
