Scam Alert: Missouri courts issue warning about fake Case.net website

OSCA

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Judiciary today issued a warning about at least one fake website “spoofing” Case.net that may expose the public to viruses or other malware.

Uncovered yesterday afternoon, this fake website – Casenetmo.us – appears to be run by court-related personnel, but it is not. The public is urged not to use this website, as attempting to do so may produce a message warning a virus has been detected. Appropriate law enforcement authorities have been notified and are investigating.

Additional websites with some form of “Case.net” in their names – but that are not Case.net – include:

  • mo-casenet.us
  • casenetmo.net
  • mo-case.net
  • casenetmonet.website3.me
  • www-casenetmo.us

These other websites are not managed by or affiliated with the Missouri courts. It is unclear at this time whether they pose similar dangers. The investigation remains ongoing.

There is only one authentic Case.net, an online search portal providing public access to public case information and documents. This tool is free and is linked from the Missouri Courts website, https://www.courts.mo.gov, and available directly at https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/. The best practice is to go directly to Case.net using one of these links and not click on other links you may find in a search online. Case.net was built and is maintained entirely by Missouri court personnel. Any other online application or website saying it offers the same service is not real.
