Legal Services of Missouri

Legal Services of Missouri is comprised of four, independent nonprofit law firms. Administrative offices are located in Kansas City (Legal Aid of Western Missouri), Columbia (Mid-Missouri Legal Services), St. Louis (Legal Services of Eastern Missouri), and Springfield (Legal Services of Southern Missouri). In addition to administrative offices, there are additional branch offices located in St. Joseph, Warrensburg, and Joplin (Legal Aid of Western Missouri); Hannibal and Union (Legal Services of Eastern Missouri); and Rolla, Cape Girardeau, and Charleston (Legal Services of Southern Missouri).

Our direct services component provides free legal representation to low income clients in a number of civil legal problems. We do not provide criminal defense representation. We handle public benefits, housing, unemployment compensation, family, consumer, education, employment, health and other matters.

Legal Services of Missouri receives state grants from the Interest On Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) as well as general state appropriations and federal grants from the Legal Services Corporation.

Each of the Legal Services programs is governed by its own board of trustees, which includes client-eligible and attorney members.

It is our goal to act as general counsel to our client community. We are committed to searching out the patterns, causes, and solutions of the recurring and fundamental legal problems facing our client community, and seeking legal recourse necessary to redress the grievances of our clients, both as a community and as individuals.
